Overview
My tank has been up and running for about six months. The tank is a mixed reef with a mixture of SPS, LPS, and Softies.
Tank mates include:
1 Red Sea Salifin Tang
1 Six-Line Wrasse
1 Red Scooter Blenny
6 Peppermint Shrimp
Various Snails
Maintenance, Feeding & Supplements
I change out the carbon and GFO once a month. I perform a 20 gallon water change every two weeks with Tropic Marin salt. I feed Mysis once a week; Spectrum pellets twice a week; Coral Frenzy or Reef Chili once a week; and romaine lettuce daily. I dose BRS calcium, alkalinity, & Tropic Marin iodine daily; and BRS magnesium when needed.
Problems
I was never able to keep SPS in any of my tanks until setting up this tank. It hasn’t come without issues. I never thought you could blast SPS with too much light, but sure enough you can. Many of my Acro’s started turning white; a sign of too much light. So, I switched around the bulbs to get less par and cut down the light cycle to 8 hours on the Aqua Science 22K’s and 5.5 hours on all six bulbs. The Acro’s seem to be responding great to this combination as I’m starting to see color returning in those that turned white. I’ve also battled with both of my Vortech’s. The impellers have both broken after just six months of use. I will say that Vortech’s customer service is top notch as replacement parts were sent out quickly.
Future Plans
I would like to add a school of purple firefish.
